Capabilities

Landloch Pty Ltd is a specialist environmental consultancy in soils, water, climate and plant interactions for all forms of land management or changes in land use.

Landloch staff have science, engineering, geology and geomorphology backgrounds. The wide range of project topics carried out can be grouped as follows:

Soils

  • Soil characterisation for mining and construction sites, development of recommendations
    for management, remediation and fertilisation;
  • Assessment of tunnel erosion risk;
  • Soil mapping and land assessment for mining,construction sites, and agriculture;
  • Measurement of soil erodibility and infiltration characteristics to underpin runoff, erosion,
    and water balance modelling;
  • Design of re-constructed soil profiles to minimise deep drainage and/or maximise plant growth.

Geology

  • Review of drill hole data;
  • Development of geological cross-sections of proposed pits;
  • Inventories of waste volumes and types;
  • Guidance on selective placement and waste dump construction.

Vegetation

  • Selection of appropriate species for site rehabilitation,considering adaptations to soil and climate, and potential vegetation impacts on runoff, deep drainage, and erosion;
  • Recommendation of seeding strategies, including delivery, seed treatment, and herbicides;
  • Seeding and fertilisation of rehabilitated landforms.

Water

  • Accurate measurement of seepage and evaporation losses from water storages;
  • Monitoring of water levels in storages;
  • Impacts of application of wastewater to soils;
  • Strategies for re-use of sewage effluent;
  • Measurement of movements of contaminants in factory areas.

Land management

  • Nutrient movement in runoff;
  • Surface treatments to minimise erosion – tree debris, rock, hydromulches;
  • Sediment movement and control in disturbed catchments – vegetation filter strips, deposition and selective transport;
  • Erosion control – on urban building sites, minesites,agriculture, forestry;
  • Design of runoff control structures (contour banks,waterways) for agriculture and land rehabilitation;
  • Supervision of on-ground works;
  • Development of rehabilitation monitoring programmes;
  • Monitoring runoff, erosion and surface condition to assess rehabilitation progress and success;
  • Impacts of tillage practices on soil infiltration properties.

Landforms and landscapes

  • Design of constructed landforms for minesites using erosion and landscape evolution modelling;
  • Assessments of landform stability and geomorphic risk;
  • Recommendations for topsoil management and placement on constructed landforms;
  • Assessment of riparian condition and development of recommendations for remediation.

Landloch has distinctive skills and methodologies that are used in various projects. These include:

  • Rainfall simulation – a tool to assess a range of infiltration, runoff, erosion, and contaminant movement processes;
  • Study of erosion using overland flows;
  • Water level sensing over short time intervals;
  • Computer modelling of landscape
